Walton County relieves coastal dune lakes

Walton County unplugs and pumps out The Coastal Dunes Lake's outflows to prevent further encroachment to property caused by high-water levels. In an attempt to protect the lakes from Deepwater Horizon oil spill, the county constructed sand berm style dams, boomed and silt fenced the at-risk lakes. Every lake's outflow in the system is unique and requires its own protection plan. The outflows will be filled with the mounds of sand dumped near the re-contoured areas when the lakes water level go down or if oil nears the shores.
